American horror story season 2 episode 2

Spankings! Nuns having sex! Bondage! Lots of fun for fetishists this week. Very fitting for Halloween. We begin in the present, as honeymooner Theresa runs from the bloody-faced monster. Ducking into a closet, she watches the monster stab Leo. The monster pounds on the door. Cut to 1964. Someone is pounding on Lana’s girlfriend’s Wendy’s door. It’s only a group of children trick-or-treating early. Wendy bursts into tears, upset about committing Lana, and the kids apologize to their teacher for being early. Trying to relax by showering, Wendy is spooked in a “psycho” moment. Closing the window in the hall, she turns and looks! Bloody Face. He stabs her. A guard finds Lana’s diary notes in her pillowcase. “ I don’t need those,” Lana tells Sister Jude. “ I have an excellent memory.” Not too swift, there, Lana, because it gets her electro-shock therapy from Dr. Arden, to, as Jude asks, “erase the memories that are tormenting her.” A young, bespectacled doctor introduces himself to Kit as Dr. Thredson. Kit insists he isn’t crazy and didn’t kill the ladies, and that the victim wasn’t his wife, Alma “ After they took her, she was alive,” he said. “ The men from outer space?” asks the doctor. He diagnoses Kit as having “acute clinical insanity.” Dr. Arden sneaks up on Sister Mary Eunice in the forest, offering her a beautiful decorated can with a candy apple inside. It’s so fairytale! “ Go ahead, have a bite,” he tempts her. Resist, Little Black Riding Hood! She bites James Cromwell’s apple, and they both look pleased. Dr. Thredson tells Jude he’s appalled by the abuse and maltreatment he’s seen. “ Your hospital still administers electro-shock therapy to treat homosexuality. It’s barbaric.” Not designating homosexuality an illness, but the method for curing it. “ Behavior modification is the norm,” he informs her. A distraught set of parents talk to Jude about their disturbed son.
→ October 24, 2012 Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow. Season 2, episode 2. TIME FOR AN EXORCISM! Whoa. Okay, so just when I thought things might even themselves out a little bit, American Horror Story turns the dial up to eleven and jams another horror movie genre into the mix - demon possession! So for those of you still reeling from super combo of asylum torture, brutal alien anal probes and mysterious man-beasts from last week, it's time to loosen your belt and make some room for dessert. Demons. Things crowded enough for you yet? Feeling a little stuffed? Look, this show is certifiably crazy, and a ton of fun to boot, but this season, after just two episodes, is coming off as overwhelming. I was excited to see Zachary Quinto show up as the court-appointed psychiatrist, Dr. Oliver Thredson. Finally, someone whose rational mind could conflict with, and object to, Jude's stubborn religion and Dr. Arden's crazy medical torture. But before Thredson can even offer up a solid counter-argument, he sits in on the absolute one case that contradicts everything he has to offer - a teen boy possessed by the devil. So.there goes our hero. And any form of opposition. Thredson literally gets all his theories thrown back in his face immediately and Jude gets the ultimate validation. So weird. And then, through the violent exorcism, that eventually fails and leaves the boy dead, we learn a teensy bit of backstory about Oliver (he used to be possessed?) and a ton about Jude. So much ugly history about Jude in fact that it makes her even more reprehensible. Because not only did she devote herself to religion after accidentally hitting and killing a girl with her car, she became cruel and insufferable instead of open-minded and kind. She had a strong reaction to the horrible thing she did, but it, in no way, made her a better person. She's just one giant hypocrite at this.
One of the more commendable aspects of American Horror Story: Asylum is that, like its predecessor, the show remains unafraid of over stimulating its audience with a barrage of seemingly disparate elements that range from canings, demonic possession, alien abduction, dismemberment and the good ol’ standby of stabbing a dude while wearing someone else’s skin as a mask. All of this (and more) has already transpired in the first two hours of Asylum, but the really scary thing is how season 2 is being described as more “controlled” than season 1. To an extent, it’s true; there is a far more cohesive storyline being brewed by series creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, but that is just the foundation on which a heaping helping of crazy is being served. At first glance, it may seem as though the show suffers from an identity crisis, or that it simply cannot decide what it wants to be. But if you take the shenanigans of season 1 into account, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that’s not the case. Asylum isn’t unsure of itself so much as it’s completely aware it wants to be everything at once. Asylum is broad horror, broad comedy (if you take into account the rough approximation of Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting that Jessica Lange and Evan Peters use as their accent of choice and really broad social commentary. There are so many themes running through the season’s storyline after just two episodes that one doesn’t even have time to wonder how it’ll all fit together. ‘ Tricks and Treats’ brings quite a lot of those themes to the table, but is mostly interested in talking about science and faith, and how staunch advocates on either side can be blind to possibilities outside their beliefs. Zachary Quinto‘s Dr. Oliver Thredson makes his first appearance in this episode and in the span of a single day at Briarcliff, manages to generally annoy Sister Jude ( Jessica Lange).

Edit Storyline A new doctor, Oliver Thredson, arrives at Briarcliff assigned by the courts to examine and report on Kit Walker. He's appalled by conditions he finds there and the fact that they still use electroshock to treat homosexuality. His view of how medicine is practiced is seemingly confirmed when a new patient arrives and Monsignor Howard decides that an exorcism is called for. In flashbacks, some of Sister Jude's life prior to becoming a nun is revealed. Meanwhile, Lana continues to be a threat and Sister Jude convinces Dr. Arden to give her shock therapy in the hopes it will affect her memory. Lana makes a plan to escape with her new friend Grace but it doesn't go as planned. Also, Dr. Arden engages the services of a prostitute but she can't quite seem to meet his requirements.
